Please publish an update, reflecting new research by Cal Poly professor, Pat Fidopiastis.

Comment on On-campus apartment prices rise: How other housing options compare by Cathy S https://mustangnews.net/on-campus-apartment-prices-rise-how-other-housing-options-compare/#comment-31068 Tue, 12 Feb 2019 06:42:05 +0000 https://mustangnews.net/?p=187149#comment-31068 Interesting that you don’t point out the SIZE of the apartments. You are comparing apartments built for two tenants to apartments built for one. Many more students wanted true double apartments when they were reasonably priced than they have available. Most are more than willing to share. You need to look at what students actually PAY for their housing. There are many houses and apartments available, even single rooms for far less than $1000 a month, much less $1200, and shared rooms much larger than the CP apartments for far less.

Comment on Meet the students helping advise Cal Poly administration on diversity issues and initiatives by Robert https://mustangnews.net/meet-the-students-helping-advise-cal-poly-administration-on-diversity-issues-and-initiatives/#comment-29948 Tue, 05 Feb 2019 19:04:40 +0000 https://mustangnews.net/?p=186561#comment-29948 Once again, embarrassingly inaccurate reporting by the Mustang News!

While it’s understood a student newspaper is prone to making mistakes, it would seem accurately reporting simple facts, especially today with the plethora of information available within a couple of clicks on the Internet, has never been easier to achieve in support of quality journalism.

Is Cal Poly the least diverse public university in the State of California as the Mustang News has reported in multiple articles? A little research confirms that statement is not even close to being accurate.

– Cal State LA is 65% Hispanic but only 6.5% white. A quick check of the math confirms CSULA is much LESS diverse than Cal Poly

– Cal State Dominguez Hills has a student body that’s also 65% Hispanic. See comment above

– UC Davis is 61% women and over 50% Asian. It would seem having one gender outnumber another is another example of lack of diversity

– UC Irvine is more than 50% Asian but only 16% white

– UC Riverside is more than 75% Hispanic and Asian but only 12% white. Diverse or not diverse based on the state’s ethnic profile? You make the call.

– Cal State Northridge is 51% Hispanic and considered diverse but Cal Poly at 55% white is not? Huh?!?!?!?

Bottom line, inaccurate reporting is truly a form of “fake news” and the Mustang Daily team should keep that in mind before publishing any article.

Comment on Why is Alex G. Spanos Stadium empty on Saturdays? by Robert https://mustangnews.net/why-is-alex-g-spanos-stadium-empty-on-saturdays/#comment-15257 Sat, 10 Nov 2018 06:01:25 +0000 https://mustangnews.net/?p=182405#comment-15257 You have to win to put people in the seats. Tim Walsh doesn’t.

In his 10 years at Cal Poly, half the seasons he’s served as head coach have been non-winning seasons. This includes last year’s 1-10 season, the second worst single season record in the last 50 years at Cal Poly.

What’s worse, unlike Rich Ellerson, the coach who proceeded him and brought an super exciting version of the triple option to Cal Poly along with lots of winning, Walsh has not had a single player he’s recruited and developed at Cal Poly drafted into the NFL..

Fan want wins and they want consistency. The want to see players do well and achieve the next level of football. Coach Walsh has only been consistent at being inconsistent. His 56-62 overall record, two post seasons in 10 years and no wins in the NCAA playoffs is the reason nobody shows.

It should be noted, for his performance, AD, Don Oberhelman, and President Jeffrey Armstrong awarded Coach Walsh a 5-year contract extension and a handsome pay increase following his 7-5 season in 2016. A record that would get coaches at most universities fired.

Since the extension was put in place, Coach Walsh’s Mustangs have gone 4-16.

Go Mustangs!!

Comment on Food insecurity on campus: It’s real by Emma https://mustangnews.net/food-insecurity-on-campus-its-real/#comment-14476 Thu, 25 Oct 2018 21:14:36 +0000 https://mustangnews.net/?p=181195#comment-14476 What an interesting piece. This isn’t a problem that only exists at Cal Poly. Other universities should implement a similar program.

The combination of a simple bicycle, scientific ingenuity, and the people behind the design and their commitment to setting a record make this a fascinating article. Wonderful to hear about students pushing themselves to experiment, learn and perform. Great job Cal Poly!
