After the Pride Center team commemorated the start of Pride Month by painting the “P” rainbow colors this week, it was vandalized with black paint.

The vandalism was reported to Mustang News this morning. An anonymous San Luis Obispo visitor saw the vandalism at 9:30 a.m. this morning when the black paint was still wet.

With the black paint splatters, “Palestine” was spray painted over the rainbow paint, according to the anonymous visitor.

Cal Poly does not have an official report of the incident, according to university spokesperson Matt Lazier.

The Pride Center painted the “P” rainbow in hopes that whoever sees it remembers they are loved and belong at Cal Poly, according to @calpoly_pride on Instagram.

The Pride Center aims to support and empower people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions to strengthen and unite the Central Coast community, according to its website

Any Cal Poly community member or group can officially paint the “P” by submitting a request through ASI Clubs and Organizations.

Mustang News has reached out to the Cal Poly Pride Center and has yet to receive a response.

This is a developing story, Mustang News will update as more information becomes available.
