Former Cal Poly starting quarterback Sam Huard announced he is transferring to the University of Utah on Tuesday, according to Brandon Huffman and 247 Sports.
The former five-star recruit had revealed he was entering the NCAA transfer portal on April 29 after completing his first season with the Mustangs earlier this year.
“Utah has an unbelievable culture and the people and the program were some things that I felt were the best for me at this point in my career,” Huard told 247Sports.
The Bellevue, WA native had officially visited Utah over the weekend before announcing his decision.
Other programs Huard received interest from include Washington, Iowa, Northwestern, Ole Miss, Syracuse, Nebraska and UConn.
Huard holds the program single-game completions record and tied the program record with six touchdown passes in a single game last season.
Huard, who has two years of eligibility remaining, is joining the Utes in the Big 12 conference and will sit behind returning starter Cameron Rising.
Rising is entering his seventh collegiate season after sustaining a season-ending injury prior to the start of the 2023-24 season.
The last time Huard suited up for the Mustangs was during their annual Spring Game on April 27, just two days before entering the transfer portal.
Before transferring to Cal Poly for the 2023 season, Huard spent two years with the University of Washington, sitting behind the No. 8 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft Michael Penix Jr.
Redshirt sophomore Bo Kelly and redshirt junior Jaden Jones will look to fill the Mustangs’ starting quarterback vacancy next season.
