After going almost two weeks without a match, Cal Poly men’s tennis traveled to Santa Clara to continue their season but suffered a 6-1 loss to the No. 54 Broncos.
The Mustangs (5-6), coming off of a win over Loyola Marymount on March 16th, and a canceled match against the University of Denver, went ten days without scheduled match play before falling to the Broncos (14-2, 1-0 WCC).
Seniors Joe Leather and Fernando Fonseca took the only doubles win for the Mustangs on Tuesday, taking down Lemaitre Luca and Tiago Boschmans 6-2. The other two doubles matchups both suffered losses, awarding Santa Clara the doubles point.
In singles, freshman Sean Kamyshev came out strong, as he was the only Cal Poly player to win his singles match against Santa Clara. He won his first set handidly, winning 6-0, and fought hard for the second set, finishing 7-5.
Seniors Noah Berry, Joe Leather, Colter Smith, Fonseca, and junior Bastiaan Westrate, all fell short in their singles matches, giving Santa Clara five points towards their victory.
The Mustangs will head to Hawaii this weekend, hoping to improve their overall and conference records, as they open up Big West conference play on Saturday, March 30 against the Rainbow Warriors.
